Teaching waiting and turn taking can be a tricky. Waiting stamina ebbs and flows, depending on where a child is at with their regulation, and how much waiting they’ve had to do already. The Wait to Turn ratio is a simple visual parents and educators can use to assess how long a child should wait for and how long their turn should be, depending on their current waiting threshold and the motivation level of the object (or activity) they are waiting for.
